Media For Social Change Fellowship | Prakhar Agrawal

Updated: Nov 16, 2020

Prakhar Agrawal (20) is a B.Sc. Physical Science (Computers) student from Acharya Narendra Dev College, University of Delhi, who has contributed to Non-engineers by sharing his fellowship experience:

  • Fellowship Field: Media For Social Change, Fellow Designate

  • Organization: YES Foundation, the social development arm of YES Bank

  • Location: Matri Sudha - A Charitable Trust, New Delhi

  • Duration: 2 months

How did you find out about the fellowship?

Through a friend/alumni of the fellowship.

What were your responsibilities as a part of it?

The project involved enhancing the social media presence, updating regular feeds to engage people on social media handles and covering the activities during field visits. Due to inadequacy of online visibility, the efforts of the social impact organisation at the grassroot level are not reaching other people. I managed all the social media platforms and refined the social media strategy. I created creative engaging content, designed graphics for social media and composed e-newsletters using the existing work and success stories of the non-profit organisation. I helped Co-Fellow Designate in documenting case stories during field visits, captured activities at a workshop and made a short video using the same shots.

How much time did you contribute on a daily basis?

About 6-8 hours.

What were the top 3 skills you acquired?

1. Communication 2. Leadership 3. Social Media Management

How did the fellowship help you going forward in your career?

One week-long intensive induction training by renowned industry leaders from marketing, communications, digital and social media, film-making including the sessions by development sector experts and getting placed in an organisation with regular mentor workshops is a stepping stone for me towards my proficient career. Ultimately, I will say “Being a part of Media For Social Change Fellowship and leading a well-defined project to maximize the communication efforts of a non-profit organisation was a tremendous experience for me. This prestigious voyage offered me unique takeaways that helped me to develop youth leadership to foster and embed responsible citizenship and sharpen my efforts towards nation-building.”

If someone wants to apply for the same role, what would be your advice to them?

After applying there are two rounds of evaluation and selection process i.e. a telephonic interview which is elimination round followed by a video pitch round around your interest, experience, skills and expectations from the fellowship.

Prakhar was keen on sharing his fellowship experience with us and I must say that he has done a tremendous job both during his fellowship as well as by sharing his learning with us.
